Troodos Nature Park
Step into adventure with one of the many networks of nature trails, suitable for all ages and fitness levels, or explore the region with mountain biking along cycling routes. If you visit the slopes during the winter season the snow filled hills of Troodos are available for skiing. Discover the history and all the information regarding the geology, flora and fauna of the region at the Troodos Environmental Information Centre located 200 meters west of Troodos square. One of the biggest Troodos mountain resort is Pano Platres, located 5km from Troodos square and at 1.230m altitude. A place where you can find a concentration of Troodos accommodation, enjoy the gushing waters at breathtaking waterfalls and take in Cypriot history.
Tip: For a unique picnic experience visit the Platania Picnic area, located 6km from Kakopetria on the Kakopetria-Troodos road. Relax or take a stroll under the mesmerizing plane trees. Facilities include picnic tables, a restaurant and children’s play area.

The village of Platres sits at an altitude of 1,100 meters, within the Troodos mountain range.
Resembling an amphitheatre, the village is separated into two ‘Pano’ meaning upper and ‘Kato’ meaning lower Platres, as the two share different altitudes. Visit one of the most famous waterfall on the island, the Caledonia waterfall, with water cascading from a height of 12 meters. Alternately, visit the highest waterfall of the region with gushing waters descending from a height of 15 meters.
Explore the village churches, the village church is dedicated to Panagia Faneromeni, built in 1880. Visit the chapel of Panagia Iamatikas, built on the ruins of an old Monastery and the chapel of Agios Nikolaos.
Sample exquisite chocolate at the chocolate workshop, fill your day with adventure at the adventure rope park and learn about the village’s history at the old Municipal Marker building which was converted into the Cultural Centre and exhibits old photos of the village.

Once bursting with life as a tourist destination, receiving visitors belonging to Cypriot and Middle Eastern Elite, due to the famous, now abandoned, Berengaria hotel. Located at the top of the hill, hidden within a dense pine forest, the hidden jewel of the mountain once hosted the King of Egypt Pharouk and the president of Israel. Now it stands desolate and abandoned, a stone building frozen in time with its furniture still inside, describing stories of its old glory times.
Visit the church of Ioannis Prodromos, from which the village name is derived, found in the village centre. Also, the chapel of Agios Onoufrios, a 14th century build, and the chapel of the Holy Trinity are admirable. Journey towards Platres and find the Monastery of Panagia Trikoukia, set in a mesmerizing environment with mountain views and pine forests a stone built church with a wooden roof with tiles tale stories of glory. Visit the monastery to find a serene monastery with no phones allowed and where worshipers can find jams, books and trinkets made by the nuns to purchase and have, remembering the visit.
Adventure into the forest following the nature trails of Prodromos – Zoumi and the College Forest trail. Moreover, journey to the Prodomos dam, cocooned by a verdant pine forest, next to the picnic site where you can have a barbecue.

Fruit trees such as apple, pears, cherries, peaches and plums, vines and nut trees, are cultivated. However, the village is known for its pottery and furniture production.
Maintaining the traditional rural character, the village architecture consists of stone build houses with tiles roofs decorated with overgrowing verdure. Sample the exceptional sweet delicacy of ‘Loukoumi’, for which the village is renowned. Taste delicious local Cypriot cuisine at one of the taverns or enjoy the scenic countryside at the local coffee shops.
Visit the church of the Holy Cross, an 18th century church, housing a stunning handmade engraved iconostasi or the surrounding chapels. Moreover, find the private Folk Ark Museum, exhibiting traditional tools and household items as well as pottery, and the Pottery Workshop. At the museum discover a Guinness Book of Records, huge clay pot with a capacity of 2000 litres of wine.
For the nature enthusiasts, journey to the Xantara waterfalls and admire cascading waters descending from a heigh of 8 meters surrounded by lush vegetation. Take in fragrant aromas of sage and lavender along with the melodic sound of signing birds. Trek to the Diazos river banks and discover small caves and fascinating rock formations among the shrubbery. Visit the medieval bridges of Piskopos, the Elia Bridge and the Tzilefou Bridges.
During the late summer, early autumn months, a number of festivals are organised in the village. The Foini Traditional Festival is held in the village centre and local products such a s loukoumi and pottery lead the festival, whereas during the autumn the Grape Festival offers the chance to try grape juice delicacies of ‘palouze’ and ‘soutziouko’ accompanied by zivania. Visit the Timios Prodormos chapel, located amongst dense forest opposite the remnants of an old chapel, dating back to 1975. In the village centre find the Agios Dimitrios church, dating back to the 18th – 19th century. Hiding below it is the old church dedicated to the saint, a stone built chapel.
Adventure into nature and trek the Kastrovounos trail, visit the local wineries and sample delectable wine or relax at the local coffee shops and take in the crisp fresh air.

Decorated in nature’s most beautiful colour and aromas, at an altitude of 730 meters is the quaint village of Moniatis. Its presence dates to the Venetian time, its name is believed to have derived from the many mansions which existed in the area.

The river cuts across the village and divides it into the Greek and Turkish community. Visit the preserved mosque of the abandoned Turkish neighbourhood. Visit the Panagia Odigitria church, the 1717 chapel of Arhcanhe Michael, the 15th century monastery of Timios Prodromos, the chapel of Zoodochos Pigis and the chapel of Prophet Elias to get an insight of the deep religious background of the village and admire stunning art. The Museum of Folk Art, located in the centre of the village exhibits traditional household items and tools decorated by black and white historic photos, hence preserving the history of rural life.
